Bare-root items
Every year, we recieve a shipment of bare root trees, shrubs, small fruit, & sometimes others items. This selection varies from year to year, but it can be a fantastic way to save some money, and planting the item in bare root can actually help it adjust to it's new home easier!​

Most items are discounted 30-45% from their regular grown and established in-pot pricing. That can be a savings of up to $70 per item!

We are now taking pre-orders for the 2027 year!
Call or visit the store to pre-order. A pre-order secures the item for you in the spring. Bare-root items are usually available for pickup in Feb. or March. If you pre-order we will contact you when they arrive.

Below is a spreadsheet of the 2027 bare-root selection. Use this for your bare-root orders. For any trees you pre-order AND pre-pay for, we will take an additional $5 off the cost listed. ​

Bare root care instructions: Bare root plants will die quickly if their roots dry out or are submerged in water for too long. They should be planted immediately, and watered. If they cannot be planted immediately, the roots need to be placed in moist soil, sawdust, or be sprayed with water several times a day. Bare roots should be kept out of direct sunlight. After the bareroot item is planted, water regularly but avoid overwatering in the early season. Increase watering as the weather gets warmer.
Why is the regular price so much more?

Some customers wonder why there is such a large price difference between the bareroot item and the potted item. That is a completely valid question, that we are happy to explain:

Aside from the obvious added soil and pot, we are also required by law to grow the item in its pot until its roots are established (filled in) in the pot. That usually takes 6-12 months depending on the item. Consequently, bare root items that we plant this year, may not be ready to sell until the next year. As such, we incur the costs of caring for those items, which include: watering, weeding, adding fertilizer, pruning, tagging, and storing overwinter.

It is this time and commitment that greatly increases our cost of the item, which is why we have to sell it for so much more as an established item.

That being said, that is why we really encouage our customers to take advantge of the great pricing that bare-root items can offer. We know that buying plants, and building a landscape is expensive, and we want you to be able to take advantage of these great prices while they are avaliable.
