Hall's Hardy Almond is a particularly interesting almond because it was selected for cold hardiness first and later flowering, making it much better for colder climates than most traditional almond varieties. It's delayed bloom can help it avoid some of the late spring frosts that we have in the area. It grows very similarly to hardy peach trees.
Produces showy pale pink spring flowers, making it a great ornamental as well as nut tree. The almond kernels it produces have a strong, bittersweet almond flavor, and are very different from the commercial almonds bought at the store. As such, it is recommened to process the kernels before eating. The nuts typically mature around Sept. to Oct.
It is considered self-fertile, so one tree can proude nuts, but planting another compatible almond can improve pollination and crop size.
